What Is Florida Fresh Dollars?

Florida Fresh Dollars (FFD) is a pilot program that helps neighbors stretch their food budgets with additional access to fresh, Florida-grown fruits and vegetables. This pilot program is run by Feeding Florida’s Fresh Access Bucks team. FFD gives eligible shoppers extra dollars to spend on local produce, making it easier to bring home healthy food and support Florida farmers at the same time.

Florida Fresh Dollars is especially focused on reaching hardworking families struggling to make ends meet. The target audience is Florida’s ALICE population – households that are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed. ALICE families have employment, but their income doesn’t cover all their needs, like food, housing, healthcare, and transportation. This program helps bridge the gap by making healthy food more affordable and accessible.

“Between ALICE households and those living in poverty, an estimated 47% of households in Florida were below the ALICE threshold in 2023. Households below the Threshold are forced to make impossible choices — like deciding whether to pay for utilities or a car repair, whether to buy food or fill a prescription.” — United Way

Florida Fresh Dollars at a Glance:

Who is it for: Any Floridians facing food insecurity, including ALICE households and SNAP recipients

Where it can be used: Participating locations across Florida

Who it supports: Neighbors facing food insecurity, Florida farmers, small businesses, and local food economies

How it works: Neighbors experiencing food insecurity can visit a participating location and ask to complete a short survey. The survey helps determine eligibility for the pilot program. Once approved, participants receive four $5 vouchers that can be used to purchase fresh, Florida-grown produce.

Who runs FFD: Feeding Florida’s Fresh Access Bucks team operates all logistics of the program. Vendors are reimbursed by Feeding Florida for all used FFD vouchers.

The ability to reliably access fresh produce has become a meaningful part of (participating neighbors) routine, and seeing them walk through our doors each day is something we genuinely look forward to. Moments like these are powerful reminders that this program isn’t just about food—it’s about dignity, consistency, and community.” — Greens and Goodness, Citrus County

Looking Ahead: Florida Fresh Dollars is a short-term pilot, but the long-term goal is to build a lasting, statewide program. This vision focuses on improving food access, supporting Florida farmers, and strengthening local food systems year-round.

“You’re doing the right thing for local people and farmers. Every dollar we earn goes back into the community — people forget that.” — Farmer supplying The Farm, Pensacola
